Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

火, 2008-05-13 04:57
I have received an email telling me that I have to have my website checked due to the new security standards that apparantly have been in place since October 2007 (I think). I have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. At the time, I was not processing credit cards via my website but am now. Can anyone tell me anything about this?

CompTIA A+ training

水, 2008-05-07 23:24
I know there are organizations that offer training for the CompTIA A+ certification for a huge fee, but I'm wondering if there is an alternative. Perhaps a web-based preparation or some self-taught method? I already have years of experience with PC troubleshooting and some real-life hands-on networking experience, but I need to know what is on the exam and how best to prepare for those areas I'm not familiar with. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello From Jacksonville

火, 2008-04-29 00:51
Hello all,

My name is John, but you can call me J.D. and I am the I.T. Coordinator for the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra in Jacksonville, Florida. I am new to this position. Been here almost 2 months, and thought I would join in on all the fun on the forums. I am new to this side of the networking fence. I installed infrastructure cabling and built NOC's for a small Communications company here in Jacksonville for seven years. Left there to pursue my education. I am currently studying for my A.S. Degree at Florida Community College at Jacksonville and will be moving in to the new Bachelors of Science in Computer Networking they have just been approved for this spring. Any help to a new guy would be greatly appreciated! I have several issues with the network to clean up and looking to install new severs soon. I will have some questions that hopefully some of you can answer.

Thanks in advance.

SharePoint MOSS for Internet

土, 2008-04-19 01:16
My organization is looking to use SharePoint MOSS for our internet site. It is really exciting!!!!

The one thing I find odd is that "Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Internet sites" is not available here on TechSoup.

I hope that I am just confused, and that the internet license is actually here.

I have a couple of questions:
Have you implemented SharePoint, and what do you think?

Where did you purchase the internet license?

Best Tool for Webinars (Including On Demand)

金, 2008-04-04 22:07
Hi - need to make a decision on a system to do monthly webinars (probably a couple of hundred attendees). Looking at a PPT and audio combination.

I know there are alot of systems out there but I also want one that will allow us to save and make the events available on demand. Not sure if companies host the files on their server or provide them in a format that we would host on ours.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Bringing the net to developing countries

水, 2008-03-12 03:47
TechSoup blog points to a recent article in the Economist on the challenges of bringing the Internet to developing countries. I've been watching efforts such as the "One Laptop Per Child" project and curious what others know about other Internet development projects. What ways do you think the obstacles of bringing the net to developing countries can be overcome?

Database for non-profit food bank

金, 2008-02-29 12:40
I'm Christina and I'm working as a volunteer for a non-profit public assistance/food bank in eastern Oregon. We need to find a new database and I'm supposed to research it. We need it to be web based so that others in the community can access it through a password, it must have at least 10 used-defined fields for assistance given and provide a history for up to 5 years. Does anyone have any experience with data bases for public assistance programs?

How many social networks does your organization maintain a presence on? Did you begin with an individual profile? How did you build up your presence? What would you recommend to other nonprofits just getting started with social networking?

Introducing.... Me!

火, 2008-01-29 01:18
Good morning!

I'm new to not only TechSoup, but also to the non-profit world in general!

I started working for my organization in October 2007 as the administrative assistant. I'm working on getting things organized, as the previous administrative assistant was more a program person, while I'm more of an office person. (Her words, not mine!)

I'm hoping to find some information on affordable database management software that we can use to track not only our donors and volunteers, but also our clients.

Thanks, and I look forward to learning from all of you!

RCI Pricing

土, 2008-01-26 00:10
I'm sure I am missing the obvious but why is the admin. fee more than twice the current market price for these RCI computers? You even state in FAQ that the fee is a small percent of the ORIGINAL price but so are all computers within a few months of purchase!! My current computer is only two years old and its current market value is 33% of the purchase price (PP) yet you have it listed for 60% of the PP? Who are BUYING your "DONATED" computers?

DVD Duplication/Duplicator

金, 2008-01-25 03:15
We are a small non-profit dance production company.
We are in need of advice and help in the DVD duplication/duplicator field. We need to make mass duplications of our performances and would prefer to do this in-house. However, we're not sure of which products are the best out there, since this is a new endeavor for us.
We welcome any thoughts and advice in this area.
Please!
Thank you,
Rosalyn

Walk-a-thon software recommendations?

水, 2008-01-23 00:50
Hello,
I am looking to find a web based software to manage a walk-a-thon. I have used Kintera's Thon software but found it expensive and inflexible. We also tried an in house version, but it had some major deficiencies. I am hoping someone in community can recommend an application that can help us manage the campaign allowing people to register, donate, spread the word, and allow individuals or teams to track their own fund raising progress.
