Best Mac database software for school?

土, 2008-11-15 08:15
Hi Everyone!

My son's nonprofit private school is using Filemaker for Mac. I got a look at the address labels today, and they were a mess. I offered to help them clean up their mailing list, and in that discussion they mentioned getting new database software, but they don't know what is out there. Neither do I.

Any suggestions for Mac software that is VERY easy to use (volunteers can do data input)? Bonus points for software that will help locate duplicate address entries, track donations/donors and has smart search features (like Ave and Avenue are recognized as the same word). It would also help if the software allowed for a lot of searchable fields (we could ID people who were current student families, past student families, years in the school, that kind of thing).

Please advise! Jodi

Cisco VOIP Pilot Program

金, 2008-11-07 22:54
Has anyone participated in the Cisco VOIP Pilot Program? I would like advice for maximizing the $2400 spending limit. I would like to configure a system with all 24 available phones. Is that possible within the program's budget?

Looking forward to your advice!

Repartee Voicemail System

火, 2008-11-04 07:45
We recently upgraded our phone system and now have a unused Active Voice Repartee for Windows 2000 we're looking to sell but I have no idea what it's worth. Version 2.2.76.0 with a WIBU-Key dongle that plugs into the parallel port. The machine is a Dell Optiplex GX60. Anyone have any idea?

ELMO Document Camera Use

月, 2008-11-03 04:22
Our school is trying to come up with the funding to purchase an ELMO document camera for every classroom. We've considered one per grade level, but we've agreed that that never works, so it's all or none.

I'm trying to make a compelling case in a brief presentation. It's a pretty easy case to make as almost all new schools include them, all teachers can see the benefit immediately, and they don't *require* a computer connection. We're going to any and all sources we can find to get the funding, but it's still close to $25k for us (22 classrooms and we need projectors for each one, too).

I want to present our case in such a way that potential funders will bite. Any suggestions?

I guess this is a two part question; ELMO success stories and techniques for getting blood from stones...

Thanks!

- Vaughn

- You have experience in working remote
- You have strong cross-cultural skills and share our environmental, social and cultural friendly mindset

What else do you need to know?

Location: remote work at your preferred location
Minimum time involvement: 5h/week
This is a volunteer position. We are a wiki-based website with an open atmosphere where everyone is invited to contribute. Earth.org is in the initial beta and as an early adopter and volunteer team member you will have the chance to help shape the future of an exciting project. We offer an enriching and challenging experience, and the chance to see your responsibilities and desires grow alongside the project.
Time horizon: minimum 12 months, preferably long-term

Software for Publicity Management?

土, 2008-11-01 00:33
I handle publicity for the fine arts department of a community college, and I'm looking for software, some sort of database, to help me organize. I've got various types of events- art, drama, dance, music, etc, and a wide variety of media outlets/contacts - blogs. online calendars, print media, radio, TV, community groups, with a wide variety of deadlines and interests and requirements. I'd like to develop a database that will let me identify the media outlets on my list interested in, say, modern dance and then let me track what information I've sent to who and when. In an ideal world, the system would generate a calendar of deadlines.

We don't have the budget - and maybe not the need - for a big bells and whistles sort of program. I've got Access 2003 and OpenOffice Base and would love to find something that would work with them or maybe some simple stand-alone software.

Your thoughts appreciated -

Carla

e-newsletters

木, 2008-10-16 00:25
I am so frustrated. I’ve asked this question to at least 5 techies. I think some have even answered me (I think). I want to send out an e-newsletter that will be visible when the message is opened. I am not familiar with HTML coding (obviously) so I need an application to build the template. My email list is very small (50-100) and the newsletter will only be published every two months.

Nonprofits affected by Financial Crisis

火, 2008-10-07 18:40
I referenced, on my personal blog, a few instances of discussions taking place that focus on nonprofit organizations and the current financial crisis. One was the Meyer Memorial Trust blog which asked how nonprofits in the Pacific Northwest were feeling the crisis and the other was NPR's All Things Considered story focused on possible funding crunches for nonprofits based on corporate funding streams. It got some conversations started on Twitter and email and I thought it would be great to capture and continue that conversation here. What do you think?

Looking for Free PDF Generator

木, 2008-10-02 06:38

Is InDesign the way to go?

火, 2008-09-30 10:38
I need some help over here! Let me set the stage. I work for an environmental NP and currently have a Dell laptop at the office. I need a laptop because I work from home a day or two a week, field work, and somtimes I moderate training session my org puts on and I connct my laptop to the ME Departmet of Education's Distance Learning Program system. It allows us to hold a training session in one location and broadcast to remote locations in a full mesh (video and audio), switching between a number of electronic devices (laptop, instructor/student/ document camera, VCR/DVD player, etc.). I have a docking station and a secondary monitor set up as an expanded view (therefore, dual monitors...and I love that). I use primarily 2003 MS Office products every day. I also have Adobe Standard 6.0, Photoshop Elements 3.0, ArcGIS/Arc View to name a few of the softwares. I use publisher to publish brochures, signs, an posters for our training dept and annual conference. I regularly use all these softwares within the course of a week. Recently, my deputy ED has asked me if I'd be interested in taking over another task...publishing our newsletters. We currently have two newsletters, may be increasing though. I told her I wanted to do some research on DTP software. From what I've found, I really seem to like InDesign. I've been getting by on '03 Publisher but I'm worried that with the addition of newletters that publisher will not be a sufficient product for my needs and will be quite limiting. thoughts? Recommendations?

Employee Scheduling Software

金, 2008-09-19 23:43
Okay, I work for a small non-profit agency in Indiana. We are a 24/7 crisis center, which is answered by volunteers. I was wondering what types of scheduling software (especially free) is out there that could assist me in scheduling them.

Let me know! Thanks!

Online Donations

金, 2008-09-05 06:20
Does anybody have a open source ecommerce type application they would recommend for a church? Our current online giving solution is not functioning in the way we desire and we have decided to add the online giving functionality to our own custom PHP app, but I would like to find a PHP open source ecommerce app to start from. I have looked at a few, but they all obviously focus on a storefront type setup and we will be doing donations not purchases. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
